Hello there, my name is Stephen and I am a Saint Louis-based ceramic artist, focused on bringing a little art into your everyday life. I believe pottery has the unique ability to be both an artistic show piece and a functional part of one’s day to day routine, not just one or the other.

To me, modern ceramics is a fascinating blend of centuries of tradition and exploration mixed with modern innovation and technology. Continuing to experiment and push the limits of these materials as I understand them with the technology and knowledge available to us is my way of continuing to honor these traditions, especially in a world that values art and its practice less and less.

Clay has been my medium of choice for over a decade now. I graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2016, and had the privilege of learning from amazingly talented sculptors and potters. Although my focus was sculpture, I ultimately was drawn to ceramics, specifically functional works, and try to make my functional pottery interactive sculptures that can be integrated into one’s everyday life - this is truly what drives my passion for making - bringing a little art to the everyday.
